If you are moving by yourself in Vancouver, BC or elsewhere in Canada, then you will have to rent a moving vehicle which could be a truck or a van. It is important to know how to load boxes and things on a moving vehicle so that your stuff reaches the new place without any problems.
Some planning is important for loading a moving vehicle properly, we prepared some tips below to help you in planning your loading process.
Heavy items should be loaded first
The rule of thumb of loading is that you should always load the heaviest boxes and items first.
Large appliances, like washing machines and fridges, should all be loaded into the moving vehicle first. It is important to balance the vehicle too, so you should place the items of the same weights on each side of the vehicle equally.
Before loading these big items make sure that they are padded for protection. Padding does cost a little bit extra, but it is worth the added protection it provides to your belongings.
Long shape items are next
Once you have finished loading the heavy items, move on to the long items such as mattresses and mirrors. Do not place them flat but rather stack them against the wall. This way you can save some space in the vehicle as well.
Cover up mattresses and mirrors to avoid ripping and breaking. Some large items will need to be disassembled before loading and moving.
Load the moving boxes
Once the individual items have been loaded, load the moving boxes in the vehicle. Load the heavier boxes first and place them on top of large appliances and furniture items to save more space in the vehicle. If there are fragile items in those boxes you should not place anything on top of them.
The light boxes come next and you can stack them on top of the heavy boxes. Another tip of keeping your belongings safe is to cover the ceiling of the vehicle’s roof with soft material such as bedding. As you are stacking things up, the boxes and items will touch the ceiling and some padding on the ceiling will protect them.
