Metro Vancouver Moving Checklist: Eight Weeks to Moving Day

A well-organized move starts long before the truck arrives. This eight-week guide connects the property, inventory, access, service choices and people involved so important details are not left for moving morning.

Eight to six weeks before

Confirm the preferred date and gather complete information for both addresses. Record the property type, unit number, stairs, elevators, loading rules, parking and any fixed key or building window.

Walk through the belongings and decide what will move, what can be donated or recycled and what may require approved junk removal. A more accurate inventory helps the moving team review crew size, equipment and timing.

Five to four weeks before

Choose full packing, partial packing or self-packing. Request boxes, tape and protective materials early enough to avoid rushed packing.

For condos and commercial buildings, contact management about elevator reservations, deposits, insurance documents and protection requirements. Share confirmed windows with the mover.

Three to two weeks before

Pack low-use rooms first and label every box by destination room. Identify fragile, heavy or unusually shaped items instead of hiding them inside a general room count.

Confirm utility, internet and address-change tasks. Keep contracts, identification, keys and important records together rather than placing them in the moving load.

The final week

Review the addresses, move date, access, inventory and services one more time. Report changes early because an added room, blocked loading area or different elevator window can change the plan.

Prepare a first-night box with chargers, toiletries, clothing, basic kitchen items and anything needed immediately at the destination.

Moving day and handover

Keep walking routes clear and arrange a safe area away from active moving paths for children and pets. Assign one person who can answer access and placement questions.

Complete a final walkthrough at the origin, then direct boxes and furniture by room at the destination. Check hallways, storage areas and loading spaces before the crew leaves.

  • Confirmed date and building windows
  • Room-by-room inventory and special items
  • Elevator, parking, stairs and loading details
