New Westminster is a historically important city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, located on the right bank of the Fraser River, on the southwest side of the Burrard Peninsula and roughly at the centre of the Greater Vancouver region. “New West” is western Canada’s oldest city and was BC’s first capital.

New Westminster’s mild temperate rainforest climate is approximately the same as Vancouver’s, and the city gets 2,000 hours of sunshine annually. Average daily high temperatures reach 22°C/72°F in July and August, and 6°C/43°F in December and January. The average annual rainfall is around 111cm/43 in.

Named by Queen Victoria, the “Royal City” combines a modern urban waterfront with some historic brick and stone buildings.
