The principal land uses in the ecoregion are forests (44%), developed land (23%) – which includes built-up areas, lawns, road surfaces, industrial sites and farmsteads – and agriculture (13%). Major industry sectors include trade and financial services, transportation, education, secondary manufacturing, tourism and agriculture.

Many people who live in this area enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle, taking advantage of the region’s mountains, oceans, lakes, rivers and beaches. Thanks to a mild climate in the winter, it is even possible to ski in the morning and golf or sail in the afternoon.
